Pneumoperitoneum Treatment in Pulmonary Tuberculosis with Reference to Lower Lobe Lesions

are already established as recognized methods of treatment in pulmonary tuberculosis. Pneumoperitoneum has not been so universally accepted. However, it is making its way on its own merits and is being used on a steadily increasing scale in India. In some institutions abroad it is extensively used with encouraging results. The character and pattern of pulmonary lesions are so varied and complex that in many cases pneumothorax or thoracoplasty is inapplicable or likely to be unsuccessful. For such cases other forms of treatment have to be explored and pneumoperitoneum, singly or combined with phrenic paralysis, is a valuable form of collapse therapy. The following are common indications for this procedure :? (a) Advanced or bilateral disease when other methods of collapse are contra-indicated or inadvisable.
